1977 Greco EG700 Standard Black Vintage Japan w/ Hard Case

977 Greco EG700 Standard in Black, made in Japan.

The EG700 was one of Greco's higher-grade Standard models during this period and features set-neck construction. Period Greco catalogs place the EG700 above the EG600 in the lineup, with the EG700 originally specified with Greco U-2000 humbuckers.

The serial number on this example dates it to 1977. This is from the period when Greco's EG series was becoming considerably more accurate in its construction and detailing, and these late-'70s instruments have become desirable examples of Japanese vintage guitar production.

This guitar has just been cleaned, restrung, and professionally set up.

Overall, it is in Good condition with scratches, finish chips, dents, hardware wear, and other cosmetic wear consistent with its age. There are several more noticeable chips around the edges of the body, along with scratching and buckle wear on the back. Please see the photos for a complete representation of its condition.

The frets show some light wear but nothing major, and it is playing well following the setup.

The guitar currently has a pair of uncovered double-black humbuckers. The 1977 EG700 was cataloged with U-2000 pickups, but I cannot verify from the exterior photos that these are the original U-2000s, so I would not advertise the pickups as original without seeing the underside/baseplate markings. Period U-2000s can be identified further from their Maxon markings.

The Greco-branded tuners are period-correct in appearance. The cream plastics have naturally yellowed with age, giving the guitar a great vintage look.
