1982 Takamine No. 30 Handcrafted Classical Guitar MIJ w/ Hard Case
A beautifully preserved 1982 Takamine No. 30 classical guitar, handcrafted in Japan and part of Takamine's vintage Japanese classical-guitar production.
The original interior label clearly identifies this guitar as a Takamine No. 30 and dates it to 1982, with the wording “Handcrafted by Takamine Japan.”
Period No. 30 examples from this exact era are documented with a solid cedar top, Indian rosewood double-plate back and sides, mahogany neck, 650mm scale length and approximately 51.5mm nut width.
Features include:
- Solid cedar top
- Indian rosewood double-plate back and sides
- Mahogany neck
- Dark fingerboard
- 650mm classical scale length
- Approximately 51.5mm nut width
- Traditional slotted classical headstock
- Decorative gold-tone classical tuners
- Bone-style nut and saddle
- Ornate traditional rosette
- Natural gloss finish
- Handcrafted in Japan
- Hard case included
The “double-plate” rosewood construction is worth noting. These No.30s are generally documented as using two-layer Indian rosewood back and sides rather than conventional inexpensive multi-ply laminate construction.
This guitar has just been cleaned, restrung and set up.
Overall condition is Excellent, particularly impressive for an instrument over 40 years old. There are only light signs of normal use. The main cosmetic item to mention is some slight finish clouding/haze visible on portions of the back. It is cosmetic and can be seen in the photos.
The frets show virtually no wear.
The cedar top is especially clean, and the rosewood back and sides show attractive straight grain with decorative center-strip detailing. The original rosette, bridge, tuners and general presentation give the guitar a much more refined appearance than many entry-level Japanese classical guitars from this period.
A hard case is included.
For someone specifically interested in vintage Japanese classical guitars, the No.30 is a particularly appealing model: traditional construction, quality materials, a clearly dated handcrafted Japanese build, and a 650mm full-size classical platform.
