1984 Greco Tusk GTX-55 Ferrari Red MIJ Electric Guitar w/ Original Gig Bag
A very cool and unmistakably 1980s Greco Tusk GTX-55, made in Japan in 1984 and finished in Ferrari Red.
The Tusk series was one of Greco’s more unusual original designs from the mid-1980s, built around the company’s Sky Diver tremolo system. Rather than using conventional tuners at the headstock, the strings are locked at the headstock and fine-tuned at the bridge. The resulting design is somewhere between a compact Explorer and a headless-style guitar, while still retaining that exaggerated pointed 1980s headstock.
This example matches documented 1984 Ferrari Red GTX-55s and features a 25.5" scale, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, dual humbuckers and the distinctive gold Sky Diver tremolo hardware. Period examples are commonly documented with Greco “Dry” humbuckers.

This guitar has just been cleaned, restrung and set up and is playing well.
Overall condition is Good. There are plenty of scratches, dents, finish chips and other normal play wear throughout, including wear around the body points and aging/oxidation on the gold hardware. The photos do a good job of showing the overall condition.
The frets, however, show very little wear and have plenty of life remaining.
It retains the important original hardware and components that make these guitars so interesting, including the Sky Diver tremolo system, locking hardware, pickups and original Tusk gig bag.
One small quirk is that one of the black tightening pieces on the rear headstock string-lock assembly is not original. It still works as intended, but because the replacement piece does not have the original finger-grip design, pliers are needed to loosen or tighten that one lock.
Serial number: 0840037.
These Tusk guitars are much less common than Greco’s traditional Fender- and Gibson-inspired models and are a great example of just how experimental Japanese manufacturers became during the early-to-mid 1980s.
