A killer 1987 Charvel Model 2 from the original Japanese-made Model Series, finished in Electric Blue and complete with its original Charvel hard case.

The Model Series represents one of the most sought-after periods of Japanese Charvel production. Introduced in the mid-1980s, these guitars combined stripped-down hot-rodded Superstrat designs with excellent Japanese construction and hardware heavily influenced by the USA Jackson/Charvel instruments of the period.

This Model 2 was built in Japan and carries serial number 280788 on its original Charvel/Jackson Fort Worth neck plate.

Factory Model 2 specifications for this period include:

  • Basswood body
  • Bolt-on maple neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • 25.5" scale length
  • 22 jumbo frets
  • 12"-16" compound fingerboard radius
  • Dot position markers
  • Single-humbucker configuration
  • Single master volume
  • Jackson JT-6 double-locking tremolo
  • Behind-the-nut locking system
  • Jackson sealed tuners
  • Black hardware
  • Electric Blue finish
  • Made in Japan

The 1987 Model 2 was originally equipped with a Jackson J-90C bridge humbucker. This guitar has been upgraded with an EMG humbucker. The remainder of the basic Model 2 layout remains beautifully simple: one pickup, one volume control and a locking tremolo.

The original Jackson JT-6 tremolo is still present. This was Charvel/Jackson's Floyd Rose-licensed double-locking system introduced into the Model Series around 1987, replacing the earlier Kahler-style system used on 1986 Model 2s.

This guitar has just been cleaned, restrung and set up.

Overall condition is Very Good. There are normal scratches, light dings and signs of play consistent with a nearly 40-year-old electric guitar, but the Electric Blue finish presents extremely well overall.

The frets are exceptionally well preserved with only minor wear. We rate them approximately 9.5/10 with a great deal of life remaining.

The natural maple neck and rosewood fingerboard are similarly clean, and the original black Jackson tuners remain installed.

Includes the original molded Charvel hard case shown in the photos.

For anyone who likes 1980s Japanese performance guitars, this is about as quintessential as it gets: pointy Charvel headstock, single humbucker, one knob, locking tremolo, fast Japanese-built neck and a great period Electric Blue finish.
