2005-06 Fender Japan AJB-100DMC Aerodyne Jazz Bass Flame Red DMC
A rare top-spec Fender Japan AJB-100DMC Aerodyne Jazz Bass in Flame Red, featuring a highly figured flame maple top, matching headstock and factory DiMarzio Collection pickups.
This is one of the premium Japanese-market Aerodyne variants and is quite different from the much more common standard Aerodyne Jazz Bass. Instead of the usual solid-color body and P/J pickup configuration, the AJB-100DMC was given a figured maple top over an alder body along with a traditional dual-Jazz pickup layout using Fender Japan's DiMarzio Collection Heavy Drive DCJ-2 pickups.
Serial number R074254 carries Fender's “Crafted in Japan” designation. Fender dates R-prefix CIJ instruments to approximately 2004-05, while surviving AJB-100DMC documentation places this model in the 2004-06 period. This appears to be an early example from that transitional period.
Factory specifications include:

The DCJ-2 pickups were developed for Fender Japan's DiMarzio Collection and are one of the defining features of this model. Japanese dealers describe them as unusually high-output passive Jazz-style pickups with strong mids, a focused low end and plenty of attack.
The Flame Red finish is particularly striking on this example. The figured maple is visible across essentially the entire top, and the matching transparent-red headstock completes the look. Combined with the cream binding and mint-style pickguard, this is one of the most elaborate Aerodyne Jazz Bass configurations Fender Japan offered.
This bass has just been cleaned and set up and plays great.
Overall condition is Very Good. There are normal light scratches and signs of use, but the bass presents extremely well overall.
The main cosmetic issue is a noticeable linear dent/finish impression on the back of the body near the upper cutaway area. It is clearly shown in the photos. There are also a few smaller marks consistent with normal use.
The frets show almost no visible wear and have a tremendous amount of life remaining.
Includes the padded gig bag and Fender paperwork/accessories shown in the photos.
This is a particularly desirable Aerodyne for someone who wants something beyond the standard production model: figured maple, transparent finish, matching headstock, full Jazz pickup configuration and the factory DiMarzio Collection electronics.
