2013 Fender Japan JB66B MH Jazz Bass in Black with matching headstock.

This is one of the more distinctive Fender Japan Jazz Bass models from the later Fender Japan era. The JB66B was built around a 1966-style Jazz Bass format and is especially recognizable by its bound rosewood fingerboard, large pearl block inlays and matching painted headstock. The model designation breaks down accordingly: JB for Jazz Bass, 66 for the 1966-style specification, B for the bound fingerboard, and MH for matching headstock.

The serial is JD13001209, dating it to 2013. Fender Japan’s JD13 serial format corresponds to 2013 production.

The bass is in Good condition overall and has clearly been played. There are numerous scratches, scuffs and dings throughout the body, including several more noticeable edge chips and marks around the lower bout. There is also visible pickguard wear and general hardware aging. Please see the photos closely for the cosmetic condition.

Despite the cosmetic wear, the fret life is still very good. I rated the frets approximately 8.9/10, with relatively little wear for a bass that has seen this much use.

It has just been cleaned and set up and is playing well.

The black JB66B MH is one of the better-looking configurations of this model in my opinion. The black matching headstock, tortoise guard, bound fingerboard and pearl blocks give it a much more upscale late-’60s look than a standard Jazz Bass. Period Fender Japan references also confirm that black matching-headstock versions were offered alongside the better-known white examples.
