1990s Metal Driver Superstrat Blue Silver Burst HSS Electric Guitar MIJ

A very unusual 1990s Metal Driver Superstrat, made in Japan and finished in a striking blue-to-silver burst.

Metal Driver was a Japanese guitar brand launched in 1997 and is an early predecessor to the later MD Guitars / MD MM-Produce line. The brand is relatively obscure outside Japan, but it developed a following in the late 1990s and was associated with Japanese rock and visual-kei players of the period.

This example has a very distinctive late-'90s Superstrat layout with:

The guitar has just been cleaned, restrung and set up and is playing well.

Overall condition is Very Good. There is visible cosmetic wear from normal use, including scratches, small dents, hardware oxidation and noticeable wear to the pickguard finish around the pickups and controls. There is also a faint circular discoloration/mark on the lower front of the body that can be seen in the photos.

The frets show almost no wear and have plenty of life remaining.

One of the most appealing things about this guitar is how period-correct the whole design feels. The metallic burst finish, HSS setup, 24-fret neck and matching painted headstock are pure late-1990s Japanese Superstrat styling.

Information on these early Metal Driver guitars is limited, and even Japanese dealers note that surviving documentation is sparse. The brand itself dates to 1997, so I would list this as a late-1990s example rather than assign an exact year without a serial number or internal date marking.

A cool choice for anyone into obscure Japanese guitars, 1990s shred-era instruments, or unusual MIJ pieces that rarely show up in the U.S.
