c. 1970 Recco / Sakai EG-1 Vintage MIJ Electric Guitar - Sunburst

Very cool vintage Recco EG-1 style electric guitar, made in Japan circa the late 1960s to early 1970s.

Recco was an American brand that imported Japanese instruments during the 1960s and early ’70s. This particular guitar appears to belong to the Sakai EG-1 family, a lightweight single-pickup model produced during this period. Comparable EG-1 examples feature the same distinctive body shape, single pickup, master volume and tone controls, and simple adjustable-height bridge arrangement.

This one is exceptionally light at just 5 lbs 1 oz.

It has just been cleaned, restrung, and professionally set up. It plays great with low action, and the frets appear to have virtually no measurable play wear.

The guitar is in good overall condition with plenty of cosmetic wear throughout, including scratches, finish checking, small dings and general aging consistent with a Japanese guitar of this vintage. Please see the photos for the cosmetic condition.

The single-coil pickup has the bright, airy and somewhat raw character these early Japanese guitars are known for, making this a particularly fun guitar for garage rock, surf, blues and other vintage-style sounds.

A very interesting piece of late-’60s Japanese guitar history that is also genuinely playable rather than just a wall-hanger.
