Kikuyae Harp Taishogoto Nagoya Japan Traditional Japanese String Instrument w/ Hard Case

Up for sale is a Kikuyae Harp (Taishogoto), a traditional Japanese string instrument that combines elements of a zither and a keyboard instrument. Rather than fretting notes directly, the player presses numbered keys which stop the strings at predetermined pitches, making it possible to perform melodies with a unique sound and playing style.

This example appears to be a later Kikuyae-built instrument from Japan and features attractive contrasting light and dark wood construction, decorative tuner buttons, and the original hard case. The instrument is acoustically operated with no onboard electronics or pickup system present.

The Kikuyae name is well known among Taishogoto players in Japan, and instruments from the company are often encountered in educational, ensemble, and traditional music settings. Included with the instrument are several original Kikuyae pamphlets and materials stored in the case.

We cleaned the instrument and verified that the keys move freely and return properly. The tuning machines function as intended and the instrument remains complete overall.

Condition is very good overall. There are light signs of normal use including minor cosmetic wear, surface marks, and finish imperfections consistent with age and handling. Nothing major was found during inspection and the instrument presents very nicely.
